One tool that most businesses and households use often is a vacuum cleaner. This small but mighty tool is helpful in cleaning and keeping our environment clean and healthy. Proper cleaning and maintenance should be done on this helpful tool to keep it in top notch working order! Below are some maintenance tips we suggest you complete regularly to keep your vacuum in tip-top shape and working properly!
- Clean attachments – These helpful attachments get dirty too! Clean monthly using a damp cloth to wipe away any dirt or dust.
- Change bags – If your vacuum uses bags, make sure to change them often (weekly if using frequently) and don’t let them fill more than ¾ of the way or suction on the vacuum could decrease.
- Clean the bin – If your vacuum is bagless, empty it often and then rinse it with plain water only (never add detergent). Make sure it is completely dry before replacing it.
- Clean filter often – Most vacuums have at least one filter that can be rinsed/washed and reused. Be sure to check this and clean often. Replace the filter if it tears or becomes too worn.
- Check cords before use – Check the cord before every use to insure it has not torn or frayed. Replace the cord if you notice any damage to prevent shock or fires.
- Clear any loose threads or lint – Make sure that the brush is free from any tangled threads. If you can’t remove them by hand, use scissors to cut from the brush.
- Store your vacuum properly – Make sure to keep in a cool, dry place so that it is not exposed to water or moisture. If the belt gets wet, it can cause it to become brittle and crack.
- Professional repair and maintenance – Just like any other machine, professional repair and maintenance is necessary. Once every two to three years, take your vacuum to a professional for a quick check up!
